AbstractA kinetic parameter, i.e. energy release rate which is defined as the released energy per unit time on the combustion wavefront of unit area is used for the characterization of the combustion synthesis of (TiO2-Al-C)-(Ti-C-Ni) system. For (TiO2-Al-C)-(Ti-C-10 wt%Ni) system, the increase of the combustion temperature by addition of highly exothermic Ti-C-Ni accelerates the combustion reaction, which results in the energy release rate and the mass combustion rate increase exponentially with the increase of the combustion temperature.
