AbstractGoethite (alpha-FeOOH) possesses excellent catalytic activity, high selectivity and good stability as a catalyst for NO oxidation through the catalytic decomposition of gaseous H2O2. HO2 center dot/O-2(center dot) as the primary reactive oxygen species is involved in the NO oxidation process together with center dot OH, and N2O5 is found for the first time in the products of NO oxidation.
