AbstractIn this study, the density and viscosity of the binary mixture of 1,3-propanediamine (PDA) and polyethylene glycol 200(PEG) under atmospheric pressure (88.91 kPa) at six different temperatures (T = 293.15 K to 318.15 K) were measured. Based on the density and viscosity, excess molar volume (V-m(E)) viscosity deviation (Delta eta) and excess Gibbs energy of activation of viscous flow (Delta G*(E)) were calculated. The apparent molar volume (V-phi,V-1 and V-phi,V-2) and isostatic thermal expansion coefficient (alpha(p)) were then obtained and fit- ted with the Redlich-Kister(R-K) equation. Additionally, the spectral analyses on the binary mixture (FTIR, UV-Vis and FLS spectra) suggested that there was hydrogen bonding interaction between the amino nitrogen atom of PDA and the hydroxyl group of PEG, which was further verified through Gaussian calculations.
