AbstractA modified polyol process for the preparation of nickel powders of rodlike shape Was attempted and reaction parameters such as alkaline amount, temperature, reactant concentration, and reduction time were varied for controlling shape, size and agglomeration of the nickel particles. The rodlike nickel powders with particle size of 1-8 mum long and 0.1-0.5 mum thick were synthesized. Ni(OH)(2) as a precursor was obtained from ethylene glycol (EG) solutions of NiSO4.6H(2)O and NaOH, and hydrazine hydrate was used as a reducing agent. The reduction reaction was finished normally in 30 min at 80-95 degreesC, and the rodlike nickel powders were finely dispersed without agglomeration. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V.
