Abstract

A simple theoretical analysis was conducted to present a new explanation for the non-linear Arrhenius behavior in the temperature-dependence of the ionic conductivity of ZrO2-based materials. It was suggested that only the free oxygen vacancies contribute to the ionic conductivity, and the activation energy for ionic conduction should be a constant. The non-linear Arrhenius behavior can be attributed to the fact that the concentration of free oxygen vacancy increases with the increasing temperature. These theoretical conclusions were supported through analysis of the experimental data.
