AbstractBACKGROUND: Various methods, including centrifugation, filtration, electroflocculation, flocculation and flotation, have been developed for harvesting microalgae. However, some economic or technical problems still remain with current methods for algal recovery, such as high capital, energy and running costs, flocculant toxicity or low separation efficiency. Therefore, there is great interest in developing new efficient approaches for harvesting microalgae.
