Abstract

The intelligent humidity control materials were prepared by a selective leaching and firing of kaolinite. The specific surface area, total pore volume, pore size distribution, and amount of water vapor absorbed by powders and bodies were measured to evaluate the humidity controlling properties. It was found that the amount of water absorbed was increased sharply at the relative humidity in the range between 50%-75% and at the main peak of pore size distribution near 2nm, and so this material can be effectively used to as humidity control elements in construction materials.
