AbstractA reversed phase high performance liquid chromatographic(RP-HPLC) method was developed for the quantitative analysis of artemisinin in a new ionic liquid system of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide-water. The determination was carried out on a C(18) column (250 mm x 4. 6 mm, 5 mu m) at room temperature (25 +/- 1) degrees C. Methanol-0.01 mol/l. HAc-NaAc (pH 5. 9) 60:40, V/V) was used as mobile phase at a flow rate of 0. 5 mL/min and detection wavelength was set at 260 nm. The calibration curve was a good linear relationship of artemisinin concentration in the range of 5 - 30 mg/L. The corresponding regression equation was y = 2. 20326 x 10(7)x - 30928. 7, r = 0. 9990. The recovery of artemisinin was 100. 2% and relative standard deviation was 0. 4%.
