Other AbstractThis paper studies the stability of distributors in fluidized beds by indroducing the restitutability criterion. Restitutive experiments have been carried out in a two-dimensional air-fluidized bed, using five types of distributor (nozzle I, nozzle II, dual-aperture perforated plate, perforated plate, porous plate) with five particles (silica gel A and b, ion exchange resin, sea sand A and B). Flow field in the experimental fluidized bed was measured by using the Laser Doppler Velocimeter. The results indicate the existence of a metastable state which can be divided into three regions (dead, fluidized and transition) during the restitutive experiment. The static bed height has noticeable effect on the restitutive number. The turbulence level in the plenum chamber below the distributor (and often with vortices) is higher than that in the exit region above the solids bed. The outlet velocity above the fluidized region is much higher than above the dead region, and is neither uniform even after the dead region was fully eliminated. In general, distributors can be divided into three types as characterized by their apertures: CAD(Constant Aperture Distributor), SOD (Self Opening distributor) and SCD (Self Closing Distributor). According to this principle, a new type of distributor for reducing the dead zone in fluidized bed has been developed.
